Week 1: Biography.

My name is Carmen and I was born on September 6th, 1997 in Galicia, Spain. Since I was a little girl, I have always loved filming videos and I used to show them to my family at Christmas dinners. That is why, after a year studying German literature (I don’t even know what I was doing there), I moved to Madrid to study Film and Media, and now will be in UCSB for the year, as an 3rd year exchange student. Regarding my interests, I do love editing and that is why I found this class interesting (although I don’t really know about it…).

Today in class we experimented a crash of the internet. Knowing that the platforms or softwares we use to create or edit images required specially technological devices, this was an obstacle for us to be able to continue with the lesson, so it was cancelled. Continuing with my day, I felt a collective chaotic atmosphere within the student body on campus, that I have never felt before (some students had their notes online, so they did not have access to them; some others could not use their streaming music platforms; or other could not even text or use other kind of social media). I must admit I even felt like we were being isolated from what was happening in the rest of the world and also, not being able to know until what moment is not gonna work was frustrating. As a conclusion to this, I must admit that sometimes we forgot how powerful the Internet is and how much we depend on it to keep on with our daily life.

Assignment Human 3D Glitch

Last week I was listening to music and I started wondering how fast popular songs grow and decline, especially when they become overplayed. That is how I got inspiration to create this song, that is based on the repetition of a track with modifications, overlapped with ambient sounds. I named it “Leitmotiv” that it is a “constantly recurring musical phase associated with a person, place or idea in a work of art with variations”. I edited this in a mix of IMovie and Adobe Premiere Pro.

Assignment: Video Sequence.
